Just got my new Burpee catalog yesterday and noticed a fig advertised in it called Letizia.  Anyone ever heard of this variety?

Not a bad price, but it's probably a Brown Turkey or Brunswick.

I did a quick google search and just came up with the burpee stuff - and it was Napoleans mothers name whose family was originally from the Tuscan region of Italy.

I met with the owners of burpee's during one of their festivals, and we spoke about figs. They said they're really not into anything besides vegetables and just offer small fruiting trees occasionally. This seems like a Sicilian brown variety that some local sicilian man grow. It is very similar to brown turkey, specially with a hollow center.

I don't know.   I'm thinking of it this way....  I have 3 versions or strains of VDB and I can't wait to taste them all side by side.   If I had 3 brown turkeys, I doubt I would have the same anticipation.

Why not?  Let us know how it does for you.  It could turn out to be something interesting.  Gene Hosey said that Kathleen's Black was obtained by his friend Kathleen as a black fig from some nursery (Michigan Bulb?) that you wouldn't associate with figs.  Apparently she forgot the name that nursery gave it.

Saw that last year in their catalog and I looked for info on it and found nothing out about it anywhere. I always keep the burpee catalogs for the pictures, the prices are a little outrageous for some stuff

It is an Etna fig Alan. You can take that to the bank.

Brown turkey I heard is not really a good fruit fig, its for landscaping

It seems to me it has all the characteristics of a Mt. Etna fig. Look at the fruit, the textbook " swordlike" leaf pattern, rough sandpaper leaf, seeming hardiness,etc.

Well I have to say, this was one of my best tasting figs this year!  I have 4 trees and the fruit on my trees are a round dark blue fig.  All 4 of my trees are very fast growers.  I will plant 2 in my orchard this Fall and see how it does in the Carolinas.  Get Letizia!  It is NOT Brown Turkey.
