Little miss figgy?

My brother seen a fig at a local nursery here with the name "Little miss figgy" on the tag. I looked it up and found a website selling it as a "New" dwarf variety, "Little miss figgy" (TM) (PPAF) ficus carica MAJOAM. Says it only get 4-6 ft tall! (A season maybe).

I was not aware of any new ficus carica breeding program. I'm wondering if they are just taking a known variety, based on the picture, Petite Negra maybe?

My guess is they are trying to be sneaky and TM and Patent a known variety, give it a funny, cute, "New" name and market it hard to make a few bucks, by saying it's going to stay really small.

What do you guys think?

I bought one from Hirts this spring. The leaves are very similar to the leaves on that link. Don't have pics and it hasn't fruited yet.

The TC lab that grows them makes no mention of any trademark or patent. PPAF stands for Promotional Products Association of Florida, I'm not sure what the deal is there.

Ok, "PPAF" also stands for "patent pending applied for" so that may be confusing to put it on a label.

OK, never mind what I said I think you are correct Sid.

Anyone got fruit yet?

I bought six because I'm a hypocrite... They were $6 each and almost 3ft tall in 1gal pots, so I could not resist. I'm going to plant all six in the ground tomorrow. Right now they are all 5-6ft tall, in 15 gal pots. I also have a tissue culture Violet De Bordeaux and they are identical as far as I can tell.

TC trees can take longer to fruit, since it seems to turn them back almost into a seedling. When they fruit I will do a side by side with Violet De Bordeaux and Little Miss figgy's ripe figs and see if they are the same.

Haha! It would be rude not to buy them at that price! :)

Make great gifts. Lol

I bought a Little Miss Figgy last year while in Florida.  One of the first figs I ever bought.  It's now about 4 feet tall.  I pinched the top earlier this season (a little too tall already when I did so) and it's starting to branch out.  Really pretty and healthy tree, but no sign of fruit yet.

I bought two LMF in the summer of last year, 1 from Hirt's and one locally. Both were in 4 inch pots and about 6 inches tall.   I must say they both grew quickly with the Hirt's now being 4 foot and the other 3 foot tall this summer and 5-6 lateral branches each. Leaves look just like my VDB and Petite Negra so my money is it is probably a Petite Negra.  I too suspect someone has simply "re-named" another fig. I got excited over the "new" Fantasia fig last year. Then found out it was a Scott's Black at twice the price. No figs to compare yet on the LMF's.
