Living ancestor of 'Rouge de Bordeaux' aka ,- Pastilière

Old hands here claim this fig  to be the direct ancestor of Pastilière.
It's our first Common fig to ripen in the southern district and shows up on a few rural markets ..It has in fact a few similarities with  Rouge e Bordeaux/Pastilière/Hirta du Japon...

Also interesting is this report from 'Planet Fig'

Yes, Francisco, it looks very much like Pastiliere, a fig that I like very much.

Thanks for this info Francisco!

Figo Preto Temporão looks very nice and I love how it looks like Pastilière!

Sounds promising for cool climates and up here it tastes just as you described.

Beautiful fig, does it generally have that blue hue to the it?

Yes Nelson.
That blue hue is exactly as it shows on the figs once they become ripe !

Same goes for 'Sofeno Preto'

I just came in from eating way too many figs ( no need to go out and get dinner -- not even sure if I could as we are under Marshall law here in Charlottesville, VA).
Anyway I just ate a ton of figs and a bunch were Rouge de Bordeauxs. I am very impressed by this tree. It is fast becoming one of my favorites. I intend to add at least one more of these to my orchard.
For a tree that took forever to produce figs then dropped them all for 2 years it has been a super performer the last 3 years. I give all my figs at least 5 years to prove themselves and I'm sure glad I did not stick to that schedule with this one. I wonder if my new ones will be so late in ripening figs.
Excellent fig!
