Courtney,
Welcome to the forum.

I am somewhat perplexed that you just jump in and ask for cuttings.  It is a fact that there a lot of generous members here but it is somewhat bad form to ask for cuttings in your first posting.  Good manners would dictate that you would at least offer some form of introduction with basic information about yourself prior to asking for free cuttings, at a minimum.

Again, welcome to the forum.

I'm so sorry...I should have introduced myself. I recently suffered some personal losses and I've been introduced to gardening to relieve stresses and dealing with grief. I find a lot of therapeutic value in gardening and have found it very helpful. A friend recommended this forum and spoke very highly of ppl on here... Just thought I jump right in and ask for help. As a newbie, the only thing that I grow are leaves, no fruit, which is very frustrating to me. I've also killed a few cuttings already but I won't give up! Anyway, I live in Boston, MA, which means I don't have a choice but to grow figs in a pot. The winter here is really nasty! thank you for welcoming me to this forum.

Ebay may have people selling cuttings or trees.
Worth a look, vs just asking for free cuttings.

Welcome Courtney,

I agree that gardening is very theraputic, I just it to relieve accumulations of everyday work stress. The thrill of eating fresh, tree-ripe fruit and berries is a great personal satisfaction too!

There is a vast wealth of information on this forum. Do some browsing and read topics that will help you get off to a good start with your figs. I did that 4 years ago and it was a great help.

As for cuttings, like someone already said, check back in around Nov/Dec and you should be able to get lots of cuttings for postage. I will probably have some Hardy Chicago cuttings available myself. They would be a good one for your zone, and they taste great!

Blessings!

Welcome Courtney!

I would like to echo some of the previous comments... PM me with your info and I will be happy to send along cuttings of an Italian fig of unknown cultivar that I have around the house when the fall cleanup commences for me mid November.

Cheers,
Tony

Welcome.  I can't vouch for this guy, or his book, but he seems to have some experience/success growing figs in The Great White North.

Ok, Take it easy on the newbie.

Try here. They are 30 min from you. A lot easier than waiting for cuttings.

Welcome   Courtney!

Your friend recommended you to the right place.  This is an amazing group of people who are very generous.   You will learn a lot over time and not just about figs.  There is a wealth of knowledge and experience here.

Thank you for introducing yourself.  It puts your request into prospective.  Your initial post as a new member asking for free cuttings got my attention.

As for cuttings, others have  suggested a few places including eBay and of course later in the fall members will be offering up cuttings when their trees go dormant.

Gardening is very therapeutic and will help you regain a sense of balance.
Being outside instantly reduces my stress levels.

You will be successful growing figs, now that you have found this forum.

As you haven’t spent time exploring the forum before jumping right in, so to speak, I would suggest a couple of things.

After you log in, you will see a Search option in the upper right corner above Welcome, Courtney.

I found this extremely helpful as a newbie trying to figure out how to propagate fig cuttings.  Search some specific topic e.g. “which way up” or “cold tolerant figs” or “PNW figs” you get the idea. I recently searched hand dolly as I wanted to know what others are using to move their potted plants around.

If you can’t find what you are looking for, by all mean start a new thread and ask.  We enjoying learning what others are doing or how they are doing it.

Also, look at the Subject list.  Pinned to the top are some locked threads which provide good information.  This will give you a place to start.  Read the thread “Start Here:  The Basics, FAS, Recommendations, Links”

Courtney,
I'm quite a newbie here myself (though I've used this site's resources for many years), but I love giving away my cuttings. I think it is one of the best things about gardening...Sharing!

I'm not sure what kind of fig I have, but I LOVE it.

I've lived in my home in Arizona for 10 years, and there were 3 fig trees here when I moved in—all the same kind (now I have two more babies from them, so 5). I recently made a blog post about using my figs, and the previous owner of my home saw it somehow. She sent me a message and said that she was so happy that I was using her fig trees because she received them as cuttings from her recently deceased father in law who brought them in his briefcase from New York 16 years ago! They were prized possessions, but they had not taken any cuttings when they moved and didn't know if I had kept them. She asked if I could send her one, so they could propagate a tree for themselves and keep the legacy going. I was so happy to be a part of that story, and love my trees even more (as if I could love them more).

...so, even though I am in Arizona, I know that my un-named tree will do well on the east coast because that is where she is from. When the leaves fall off in a couple months, I'd be happy to pass cuttings on to you and help this tree on it's journey.

God bless

Cricket I wonder if someone could identify your fig if you gave fruit and leaf pictures? :)

Cricket -

What a lovely story.  I am sure someone in the forum can help Identify your figs.

Please create a new post introducing yourself  with your story and add a couple of pictures.
Whole fig, cut in half so we can see the inside and fig leaf.

Welcome!
