I discovered this Fig tree on a holiday in the Gokceada island . I went ahead and asked around the area for some details and was stunned when I listened its story from a very old gentleman. This tree was originally planted there by a fruit enthusiast in that Island as a cutting few years back and the mother tree is in the hill that is called (Aşıklar Tepesi ) Lovers Hill. That area is covered with Figs trees of all kind,
P.S: the mother tree is as old as my grandfather.
Apparently a couple of different nationalities used to meet in that area during the First World War. They started to meet each other in that area where the fig trees are growing . Everything went well during a year but after the families heard this relationship ,they didn't allow them to meet .But they found a way to communicate and the girl sent a note inside a red handkerchief with a friend and said her to hang it to the fig tree. The boy went there and read her messages very happly. One day he went to the hill to take the note and this time it wasn't a good news.
The note says,"We couldn't come together but I hope lovers come together under this tree from now on".
Since then the lovers hill Fig trees and the Island has been an attraction for many tourists. The story could well be a myth but this is what people believe in that area.
