More Ripe Black Madeira's

I harvested 2 additional BM's from 1 of the tree's yesterday. Still have a number of fruit in various stages of ripening including 1 that will be ready today but these 2 looked ready to pick with honey dripping from the eyes inside the Organza bags when I checked on them in the afternoon... They were perfect.... gelatinous, sweet and berrylicious.... I haven't tasted a better flavored and textured fig than the Black Madeira's I have had the pleasure of tasting over the last few weeks... BlueMalibu's BM's from California Fig Heaven were tops but these were not far behind in *******WOW******* level flavor....

Thank you for sharing these nice fig pictures
It is in fact a fine black fig.

The pictures look amazing!!! What part of the world are you in

Thank you, Francisco. I am ecstatic about the taste of these figs... As there appears to be wide agreement bordering on general consensus that the American name Black Madeira fig is either the same as or very closely related to Figo Preto and your own Violeta, I am eager to do some initial comparative tasting with some first leaf FP's that are coming along the ripening cycle (although I realize that comparing first leaf fruits with fruit from a plant several years older than that does not constitute a "level" playing field). Violeta, as of now, remains out of my grasp but perhaps is something I will be able to compare against in the future (after all there is no such thing as too many instances of a great variety)

@Richardk  I am in the Eastern US, New York Zone 6A to be precise... The plant and the resulting figs have benefited from receiving great care and an early start from another forum member (DrivewayFarmer) from whom the tree was acquired this season...

A northern black Madeira grown to perfection. Impressed
Nice work.

Thank you, Richie!

Great job, Tony!  ...Way to push the envelope!!!

Thanks, @Bluemalibu! I really was very blessed with this plant and fruit... If my other varieties provide me with anywhere near as much pleasure as did these, I am bound to get arrested for walking around with a permanent grin on my face...

Very nice , now you are making me jealous

@deerhunter16b - John, you have nothing to be jealous about... you are one of the most successful Fig Meisters out there and certainly in NY and I am just trying to get past my newbie status....

Very nice looking.

How early of a start did you give it?

@MyDogMike The tree was acquired in July with fully formed figs from an excellent fig meister and fellow forum member. The ~4 year old tree was from NH and thus was nurtured with special handling in that cool climate to get it to the size and productivity it has attained. Not sure the exact details of how it was over wintered previously but this year its going into the GH as long as I can keep it going and then once the cold weather sets in, it will be moved into an attached garage where it will not have the opportunity to freeze solid even though the garage temps will approach the freezing mark at times. In the spring, I will shuffle it for a time to give it sunlight as the buds pop and then it will go into the GH until late May or early June until after frost danger has past. Then it will be moved outside into its current location for the 2018 growing season. Hopefully there will be no crazy surprise polar vortexes hitting this winter and everything will go according to plan. Of course, we all know what happens with plans....
