Hi Maris
The best thing for you to do is check around your area and see what figs have been found to grow well in ground there and grow those.

Here in Niagara zone 6 it is colder than your zone, mean January temps are -7C, Elevation 89M, Latitude 43.2.

We get lots of ripe main crop figs from my in ground trees.
We have grown Ciccio's Fico Nero and Fico Bianco for over 50 years between my father and I.   gs on my 2 figs;

Dalmatie has also grown well in ground.  Dalmatie ripens 2 weeks later than the Ciccios but I have had no problem getting lots of ripe Dalmatie main crop figs.  These figs are so huge and sweet that you can only eat 1/2 a fig;

The 3 figs above are my cold hardy and best productive.

A  posting last year on figs grown in n ground in cold climates.  There are quite a few figs named in the pdf and the F4F member that recommend them.

Lets face it most of us grow figs for fun so take a chance and try what you think are promising varieties.

Hi Maris,

I got same problems here in Berlin (right next to you), maybe slightly better climatic conditions. I will now focus on heavy breba crop figs such as desert king or early bearing main crop figs for inground. In addition I use a little greenhouse to fasten growth and ripening for my pottet plants.

In my area figs arent popular. Only in the garden of an ancient palace next to berlin (potsdam) we got three different varities, which were planted in former times by prussian kings.
One of these varities is Dalmatie, which is performing well (is protected by glas in wintertimes).... the other two are still unknown to me. As pino already said, I guess dalmatie would be good choice for your area. You could also try Pastiliere, Md2S or Desert King.

Hello Maris,
I am new to this Fig growing, I started growing the Chicago Hardy fig. that's tree can survive down to -15 degrees farenhiet. just check it on google its --26.11 Celsius.
I live in NJ zone 6A last year it got down to 20 degrees F with a wind chill of -5 my tree is doing good haven't tried the fruit yet. should be ripening  soon God willing. Also these figs can grow in pots, so you can bring them indoors in the winter
talk soon.
Stephen
