My Cuello de Dama Negra cheat

Ok, the cheat is that these figs were bought rather than grown, a secondary cheat being that they are more commonly known as Col de Dame Noir. In my defence, they are grown near Barcelona in Spain by organic fig farmer Jose Mari Agusti and that is their Spanish name. I suspect that Col de Dame Noir is originally a Spanish fig.
They were bought in UK from Riverford grower and supplier of organic food.
For anyone interested in the financials they were £3.95 for 250g. That translates to US $9.29 per pound.
I have got plenty of my own figs at the moment, but not this one and couldn't resist.
Tastewise they didn't let down. Maybe not the ripe you get from letting them hang on the tree that bit longer but pretty good. So here's a couple of pictures.

It looks real goood!

John,

They look very nice and thanks for sharing. Good find. Col De Dame Noire (French), in Spain they call it " Coll de Dama Negra", and this is not to be confused with the "Cuello De Dama Negra" which is a different variety completely, I've been told. Your picture resembles "Cuello De Dama Negra".

Cheers,
Vinny

This pic belong to Isabel, my source of cutting. I just want to share it with you.

John hi,
The figs you show remind me the CDD Grise.

Anyhow looks great!

Hi Vinny and Elin,

Elin some pictures of CDDN and CDDG look similar to me as well.

Vinny, thanks for the info. How do you get the picture to show on the screen without having to open an image file.
Fig names are a real briar patch, I sometimes think the species needs changing from ficus carica to ficus confusus.
Anyway my own two year old CDDB is swelling it's 3 figs nicely and weather willing should be ready in a week or so.

Hey John,

I'm wondering about that also. Sometime they appear as a file, sometimes on the screen.
Anyway went down to Sainsbury's and they got fresh figs from Turkey now "Black Bursa". Go get them , you won't be disappointed. £1.60 for a box of 6. I wonder how they make money lol.
Here are some pics.
Cheers,
Vinny

Hi Vinny,

Yeah, those Black Bursa will be around for the next couple of months. They're pretty good early in the season like now, but can be a bit manky later on. Waitrose had some Black Mission in last week. I was tempted but didn't get any because my belly hasn't got room for any more lol.
Off the subject, have you been following the topic on adding silicon products like Dyna-gro Protekt to the fig care regime. Any merit. What do you think?

Yes I use dynagro fertilisers. Protekt Silica is good at cuttings stage and also as a surfactant for foliar feed. I also use them with Dynagro neem oil and when applying other nutrients and it helps them to stick on the leaves and absorb better. Pretty much everything I want to say is explained nicely here :

Cheers Vinny,
That's great info.
All those benefits, maybe I should add some to my porridge lol.
