Thanks to Coop, I finally got to taste Dominick a day or two ago.

My son Dominic did the harvesting.  He couldn't wait!

He let me take my pics and taste before gobbling them up.

Very nice small fig with a great berry flavor.  Good color inside and out.  Juicy and not too sweet.  Definitely a keeper.

Thanks again Coop.  Both Dominic and I give it a thumbs up!

Edited to include a link to the original story of how the Dominick was introduced to members of this forum.

How great is that to share your interest with the kids! Glad he enjoys it too. How does it taste compared to RDB?

My RdB has not ripened yet so I can't compare.  But the flavor on this one was good enough to say that I'd keep it.  Since my son gobbled up most of them and only left me a bite, I'll have to wait for the next batch to ripen before describing and comparing.

Danny - looks great. I was actually just looking at buying a dominick tree on ebay earlier today, wish i saw this post sooner.

I remember reading your post about the cutting with "dom" on it and your son thinking it was his, very cute. I can only imagine that is going to be my daughter next year (shes only 15 months now), but she already knows where daddy's black cherry tomato tree is and runs to it daily to ask for me to pick some and feed her. She is going to do the same thing with figs once she knows how delicious they are.

I'm happy that Dominic likes the figs.  He's learning the names and I'm sure he'll develop a taste for certain ones.  Of course The Dominick is his favorite.  When people come into the yard to see the figs he'll kneel by The Dominick, cradle the topmost leaves and explain how that's the best one.  I love watching the process.  Or I'll be outside doing 'fig work' and he'll come out and watch me fuss over a large dark fig and yell something across the yard like, "Dad, that's Brown Turkey (tew-kee).  That one stinks!"  Funny how kids pick this stuff up.

Danny,
This is music to my ears. I couldn't be happier that your son Dominick is carrying the tradition.
You guys mean the world to me, and by the way...beautiful plant and fruit!!

I thought it appropriate to link this thread to the original story of how The Dominick was introduced to this forum.  This is the story I told my son Dominic after I was gifted this special tree and I'm sure one of the reasons it is significant to him.

Wow!  Nice plate of figs, Coop.  We're about a day out from 2 more ripe ones.  Thanks for posting the pics.
