My first fig! Big smile today!

I started gardening from seed @ 18 years ago.

Figs, last Fall. Today was one I'll remember for certain.

D'all Osso fig.

I shared it with my son who said it tasted like kiwi.

I thought so too, with a light sweetness and the seeds were not noticeable.

Thanks for the addiction everyone.

Big smile, Mike

Very nice first fig!

Very nice, congrats.

It only gets better from there :)

Congrats Mike! You always remember your 1st one! Glad it puts a smile on your face, : )

Great job Mike and Son ! Enjoy! Nice photos too..

Congrats! Glad you get to share the experience with your son. Also thanks for introducing me to another cultivar to try. Looks delicious.

looks very sweet, sugar like.
very nice try. :)
congratulations

Nice! I know the feeling!

Congrats, Mike!  Can't wait to see your hauls this time next year.

Congratulations Mike! It's a nice looking fig for sure. I'm glad your first fig was also a tasty one!

Hi Mike,

Looking very good!  Is that the same Dark Italian you gave me or a different variety?  I kept 3 of the plant you gave and gave away one.  All 3 have figs, but none will ripen in time.  Most of my plants are in the same situation and I'm debating whether to leave them as breba for next spring or remove to make room for the main crop.  I had just 2 figs ripen last year and I'd hate to remove 100 of the little guys spread over 10 plants.  congrats!

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Those are different plants that came from in-ground trees @ Bridgeport/Shelton area.

One of them is a smaller fig so you never know. I think a bit later too.

I have several older friends that grow figs, an each have mentioned olive oil to hasten ripening at season's end.

I was told it takes @5-7 days to work. There may be hope. Quarter or so in size, or bigger.

I have had similar thoughts on tiny fig, but don't want to stress the plants now.

The fig in the picture is D'all Osso.

  Mike

Congratulations, there is nothing quite like that first fig!

Beautiful!  hey Mike, does the 5 gallon pals have holes on the bottom or are they sips?

I drilled two on the bottom, and three or four, on the side by the bottom.

3/8" bit.

What does sip mean?

no holes, raised above water level and filled through a 1 1/2 pvc like Bill's models

Mike next time you come by remind me and i'll show you a sip and how it works

Congrats on a great job growing this historic fig!

Someone must be looking out for you or your 18 years of gardening have given you a golden green thumb.
