Neri 2?

I picked up a neri2 at bills' figs but I can't find any info on it. A forum user was nice enough to PM me and said it was a white Marseilles.  Anybody growing this? Any comments on production or cold hardiness?

It's listed in the F4F variety database (not sure that helps)

All of the entries are blank. Even a google search yields nothing.

White Marseilles is pretty hardy as I understand it. At the first NE fig meeting someone brought "Egg Harbor" cuttings which were thought to be White Marseilles or something close to it. I planted that as a first year cutting in a neighbor's yard (neighbor who allows me to garden in her yard) and it survived the winter with no problem. I planted it in July or something and totally forgot about protecting it, thought it was lost as we had a pretty tough winter that year, but it came through fine. That of course was 3 years ago. Today it has a fair amount of breba and is starting to set main crop. Don't know about taste yet but will soon.

Bill got them from a guy named Mike Neri. I had both white Marseilles and neri2 growing next to each other and fruit and leaves were exactly identical. The trees were similiar in size but I liked the branching of the Neri2 better and planted it inground and traded away the White Marseilles. The top was winer killed and now it is currently sending shoots up and a branch is growing from the 3ft stump. Last year was its first winter outside and I left it unprotected.

Thanks again Jason. Will pm you when I get down to LBI.

Bill was pushing this one

I would have went with Battaglia Green for white figs although I do like the white marseilles ( neri2) enough to plant it in my small yard.

He said neri 2 is hardier. All of mu figs are going on a 2 year probation in pots before they go in-ground. Winter protection for 2 after that, then it's sink or swim time

Hey Nick, how did your Neri 2 turn out?  Any pics?
thanks,

Bumping this thread... headed to Bills this weekend and looking at some of his Green figs with green/yellow interior. Any update on Neri 2 or Bataglia grown in the East would be appreciated.

Neri2 was an ok honey fig... I'm not a big fan of honey figs. Bataglia, if the same as mine, has a red interior.

Stopped over Bills and saw some great looking figs. A lot of cuttings in the green house being started, not a very big selection this time of year!?
Thanks Nick. Neri2 was not available so I went for Lattarulla also called it Italian Honey. Lets see how it turns out.
