New Figger - Branching question

Hello to all,

I am a new Fig tree grower. I received my Fig at the ed of last summer, it was a bout a foot tall. I wrapped it in the winter and brought it inside to my sun porch. I have since brought it outside and it is growing pretty well ( just about 5 feet now). But that is 5 feet straight up, no Branching. Its almost as if it thinks it is still a branch. Image attached.  Does anyone have any suggestions on helping it branch?  or is this a next year option? fig.jpg

Hi,
No miracle but cut at the desired height.
I would cut at six or height leaves in an effort to keep the tree small.
You can then make 2 or 3 cuttings with what you cut and try and root them.
I myself too pinched a "madeleine des deux saisons" because she was not making fruits and growing all stems straight up.
I'm glad she survived the winter, but still I want fruits for this year.
In Zone7, now is a good time frame to pinch so that the future new buds have time to grow into stems and harden off before the winter.

Thank you jdsfrance,

I followed your suggestion and "pinched the top" and now i have three new branches, the longest on about 4 inches long already. Thank you
