Welcome to the forum. I am in Dallas area too. This is the right time to plant in the ground if you choose to. If you can accommodate a south facing wall - it will protect from cold wind from north and the warmth of the wall all summer long. Make sure you water it well for the first 2 years and prune it to a shape so it doesnot become leggy and unproductive.Wish you all the best.
Great info sohelz , thank you i will do that
Have you decided yet on varieties for your next 99 trees? :-)Figs have a way of doing that to you...Welcome!
Hey Cordell, WELCOME! Glad to have you here! :)
Well I have definitely been stung bye the fig wasp and its making me want more and more fig varieties lol! Saw this ""Native Black"" fig tree and the price was right ! Read its a heirloom variety from LA brought over from Italy, any body have any going?
One thing to keep in mind is that a lot of fig trees at local nurseries are not true to type. I'm not saying this applies to your trees but a lot of people have been burned, especially at big box stores. As your tree matures and produces fruit you should check it against photos that others post on the forum for this particular variety.
Welcome.FYI - Everything that I have gotten so far that was grown by the Brazos Nursery wholesaler has been true to variety. A lot of well respected nurseries down here get most of their figs and citrus from them.CliffH
