New(ish) member introduction

Hi All,
I've been on the site for a while but want to finally say hello, it is a very knowledgable and friendly community here. I've attached a few photos of my modest fig tree collection. I started them in the conservatory this year and recently moved them outdoors, they would normally be dormant still in the uk at this time I think. Hoping to get some to ripen that illusive main crop,

Best regards to all,
Steve

Steve, welcome to the forum. Very nice collection.
We have a few members from the UK, I'm sure you'll find new friends.

Warmest greetings Steve. Your figs look healthy and am sure looking forward to warmer days.  It's nice to have a conservatory to over winter and to get an early start. Our members on the Mid-northern, East coast are so very helpful and am sure can answer any questions that come up. I'm near the desert in Southern California and though we have cool winters, we don't deal with the really bitter weather so many have to fight with to keep their figs producing. But of course once you bitten into your own fig, no sacrifice seems too small. Be well.   Noel

Steve, welcome,or should it be welcome back?,your collection is looking good, wish I had a conservatory,my collection are only just breaking bud here

Your trees are looking great Steve. So far the weather has been great (touch wood). So you got a greenhouse too right?.

Hi Vinny, yes I'm keeping a close watch on the night frosts, like you say, ok so far.

I made a small greenhouse from cheap wood and some horticultural polytunnel type plastic. It doesn't hold the heat at night, but it gets nice and hot with any sunshine during the daytime. The house i'm renting has an east facing conservatory, so it doesn't get lots of sun but it does remain frost free in winter. If housing ever becomes affordable I'd like to buy a place and build a big greenhouse, there is a very inspirational guy from the states (Jerome Osentowski) who is designing passive solar greenhouses that store the summer heat in the soil all winter (he calls it a 'climate battery'). I'd love to build one and fill it with fig trees, grape vines, peaches etc

Cheers
Steve
