Surprising. I was kind of expecting this fig to be red, or redish, inside. Did the bright pink eye, from your earlier photos, fade when the fig got ripe? 

Yes it did. Will take new pics of the ripening stages I am wondering if last years pic was from breba crop. I missed the breba phase this year because of time at work not to mention constant rain.

Very nice. I was expecting a red inside as well.

Thinking about it, and double checking this evening, the figs on the tree grown from cuttings you sent me does not have a colored eye either. These are main crop too. 

Now that the pink eye is gone will there be a new name for it? Hopefully not brown eye. :).

Hey Richie,

I finally had two of these figs about to ripen, and then came Harvey and 20+ inches of rain. I'm sad to report that both of them spoiled and I'm not sure that the others are not going to spoil too. But the two that I removed today were fairly large, at 60+ grams, and I really look forward to getting one to ripen properly.

We have been praying for all the areas hit by Harvey.  We hope all is well with you and yours. 

It's just past a year ago when all the flooding happened here where we live and Baton Rouge area and that storm wasn't even big enough to rate a name, but it moved slowly and kept stalling, so it dropped an enormous amount of rain on all of us because it kept sucking up moisture from the Gulf.  I've never seen so much rain, so heavy and so constant in all the years we've lived in Lafayette, which is 50 years!  It never let up, so you never know with storms.

It has just been found that those concrete barriers, on the freeways, that are solid, kept water from moving like it should have to shed a lot of water in the Baton Rouge and surrounding area, but there were no barriers in our area and the flooding was horrendous in some places.  In the Baton Rouge area, there is a convergence of four, or five rivers in the area and they all went out of their banks.  That sure doesn't help things.  I don't know why it is that "planners" never seem to think outside the box to think about what would happen in severe weather conditions, but they evidently don't.

@Richie - No the eye never turned pink on my young tree, nor did the figs ever turn canary yellow like your first pics either. 

@Noss - Thank you for you kind thoughts and prayers. I have a nephew in Baton Rouge that I am very close too, and he was flooded there last year. Just got all the repairs done in the last few months. So far my family here is fine. Just stead hard rain, but no real flooding at the house so far. The rain is supposed to end for a while here in 2 or 3 hours. Then we get round two with Harvey comes back to hit Houston itself.

These things don't just affect those in a particular area because they happen all over the Gulf coast and that hits close to home.  We always keep people in our prayers when things like this happen.

During the time the heavy rains were here and the Baton Rouge area, I kept going out onto the carport to see what the rain was doing and it never ceased.  There were times it lessened, but it just never stopped!  For days!  The water came about 3/4 of the way up our driveway, but was shallow.  We live down the road from the Vermillion River and are on a low bluff, so drainage between us and the river has very few houses and on our side, few neighborhoods, so it drains fast.  That doesn't mean we couldn't flood under the right conditions.

I just prayed and stayed watching the TV the whole time like I'm doing now because I couldn't sleep.

I pray that Harvey's second pass will not be bad.  Mike's brother and his wife live in Houston, but so far, so good.  Our granddaughter has friends in Houston and the surrounding area and some have been flooded out.  She lives in Lake Charles with her husband and little daughter, so I hope they won't flood if the rains get heavy.

So many people have no idea what wind-driven rain, surf and water from overflowing waterways can do and it can't be stopped.  I used to cringe when people would talk about having hurricane parties in beach houses!!!

God help and be with everyone in the affected areas.  It soon may be us.  God watch over the people who are out there in harm's way, rescuing people caught in the flooded areas and keep them safe from harm.

One good thing is that along the coast, so many people have their own boats and they go out to help people without being asked.  Now how kind is that?

I could agree with your comments more. We've spent a lot of time living on the gulf with living in New Orleans, Houston, and Brownsville. I've kind of lost track of how many hurricanes we've been through now. But we always take them seriously, just judging each one as it comes along.

We had friends flood last time in Lake Charles, as well as the family in BR. I hope everyone fares better this time around, with Harvey now looking like it will hit around the state line (for its 3rd landfall!).

Here are a couple of pictures of the figs off the tree I grew from your cuttings. They did finally turn more yellow, but no pink/red eye. Sorry, no pictures of the inside. I ate the first one, which was good, without a picture. Then the other two were pretty blown out by all the rains we got form Harvey (I picked them about 2 days after the 26+ inches of rain).
