Very nice trees you have in Tunisia. Congratulations..
The figs you mention on your post seem to be listed on the pages of this illustrated report.

It's a nice/robust fig ready to give you a few samples this season.
There are apparently a few strains of the Zidi fig in Tunisia with some marked differences namely size and weight, and pulp colors, skin...etc. They grow mostly in Djebba,  Monastir, Mhamdia and Tatouine
Which of these is yours ?

Nice pictures!

I see olives and prickly pears, your landscape is very similar to mine.

Is this fig Bither or another variety?

Hi Fico , yes there are olives , grenads, oranges, vine, palms.
Indeed it's a Bither variety (San Pedro), i think we have similar climat ,  Like Tunisia, Sardinia seems to be a  beautiful mediteranean place ..
Sardinians Fig trees could spread from the Phoeinician rule ?
Regards.

Hi JoF,
thanks for the answer.

We are "neighbors", i'm just slightly further north: the climate is similar, only cooler.

It's very likely that some varieties have reached Sardinia during Phoenician or Carthaginian rule, since these civilizations were predominant on the island.

  • JoF

Fine, so we certainly have similar varieties ..
Naturly it's also during the Carthaginian period that fig culture has been developed in Tunisia.
Interesting.

Probably.
Sardinia has been part of Spain for many centuries, (we are "italians" only because Sardinia was literally sold) and Spain is surely another area where there may be some similarities, and some spanish varieties are of north African origin, then the connections are many.

Luckily is available enough literature about Tunisian varieties, much less about Sardinian ones.

You have one of the greatest, the Zidi is among the best of the world, and i'm sure that the others are not inferior.

I have this as Zidi.
What do you think is it a real Zidi?

  • JoF

It seems so indeed , Large and five lobed , you will confirm that when it'll give you some ripened fruits.
regards.

Her pollinator is too juvenile at the moment... :)
