Opinion on 1 gallon pots and source

So i just started doing my inventory of what i plan on growing this winter and want to be prepared for moving the rooted cuttings to 1 gallon trade pots in time. I am rooting 80+ cuttings and found the following two options as cheapest price online for 1 gallon trade pots. I will also try calling up some nurseries near me and see if they have any used ones for sale for cheaper as well. But wondering everyones opinion on style and if they know better prices. I should have bought in bulk when i purchased from AMLEO, but then i would have TOO many. I found that landscapers to be a better source for pots than nurseries. Usually one gallon pots(used) go for 10-20 cents each and 3 gallon used go from 25-35 cents each in my area.

I talked to our local landscapers and gardeners, they just gave the pots for free since after planting they all go to trash . Also, a hydroponic store nearby sells new and used pots, the used ones are very cheap and almost clean. __________________ wish list: Violeta, Calderona. USDA z 10a, SoCal

Matt I am not sure where you are on the Island but I have bought of containers from Griffins Greenhouse Supplies in Brookhaven. I think the sleeve of 100 1 gallon trade pots were about $35. They are reasonable compared to online since you are not paying for shipping. I also get my ProMix and coarse perlite from them. It is a bit of a drive for me but I don't do it too often. Call first. Matt - that odd looking second pot you pictured looks like it might be top heavy and tip over easily in a little wind. Wayne/Greenfig - yea, i thought about that but there are no active landscapers at this time of the year and they are generally not nice and giveaway things. They charge for everything :) . John - the first ebay link i posted is half the price of what you listed and same design, you should check out ebay because at that amazon price you can get them at home depot and they are heavy duty 1gallons. Typically blow molded pots (the first link) are thinner and less durable than thermoformed pots (the second link - Euro) You'd need to ask both suppliers how many mils thick their pots are. The thicker the better. I don't think there will be an important difference in wind tipping. Neither should be left outside when not in use. That second "euro style" pot isn't funny shaped - they just have a photo on there from an extreme angle. Check out the other photos and it looks like it's a standard pot. Are you putting your cuttings directly into 1g containers? All that soil can be a bit much for a new cutting sometimes. Easy to over water. I figured the euro pot was more rigid, i was worried about space on the bottom and airflow once its outside with the extreme winds i get near my house. I am driving up to Massachusetts this upcoming week for work and there is another griffins warehouse almost on the way, so i might try and stop by on my way back and pick up something along this line. I wish someone needed half of these, because 140 is crazy and all i need is like 70~ anyway. http://www.hc-companies.com/ProductCategories/Thermoformed/1-Gallon-or-Less/XNS0T1G2.aspx 140count of 2.6qt (little less than trade gallon) for ~35 bucks I will not be direct planting cuttings, as i mentioned above these would be for when i finish rooting my cuttings. I have multiple rooting methods i'll be using. Most of my cuttings will be coming from cloner or bag method, so they will hopefully have very hefty roots at that point before going into 1 gallon. These pots are probably lesser quality than some, but you can choose the amount and there's Free Shipping. I have bought used pots from these guys in the past. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nursery-pots-plant-pot-60-Trade-1-gallon-Nursery-Supplies-SM-300-pots-RECYCLE-US-/301820129601? The best prices I had found were .50 or less each (with shipping included ) for used 1 gallons (lots of 50) on eBay. Good pots and nice that they recycle these. I've gotten the one gallon black nursery pots for less than $0.50 each on eBay, "buy it now", and free shipping. They aren't heavy, but they hold up fine. __________________ USDA Zone 9b Wish list: Abruzzi, Pasquale, Tagliacozzo, Zingarella, Godfather. Any unk Italian, especially from Abruzzo.

A lot of big nurseries in the Midwest and West give away used pots, especially the smaller, <1 - 3 gallon pots.
