If you want a unique great tasting fig, then it is worth it. And $25 for a Col de Dame is not a bad price.
Propagating fig from cuttings is the normal method for starting new trees. You are basically cloning the original tree. While seeds (or Seedlings) will not produce a tree that is true to the parent. And the seeds would never be pollinated growing in Texas anyway, as we do not have the proper insect. In general, this is not an issues as the figs we grow here are "common" figs and do not require pollinate to give fruit.
You will want to keep any fruiting fig outside. This late in the year you would not get fruit from this particular tree this summer. But you should have figs next summer. Fig trees can grow very fast.
If I lived closer, I would probably buy one. After checking with the seller for details of course. They are probably a member of one of the forums too.
