So 2 weeeks ago I visited my grandfathers sister in Brooklyn. She has a rubber plant which belonged to her mother, my great grandmother, and is about 65 years old. I got a cutting and placed it in water. It now has root initials. Does anyone face advice for where to go from here? Should I put it in promix in a mink tree pot? Thanks in advance. Dom
Simply put it in potting soil and you should be ok. It's a Ficus plant - it's called just that in my country 'room ficus' - and it's pretty resilient. It's a common indoor plant around here and my wife is growing a nice variegated version as well. Be careful with kids and pets, the latex is toxic and irritant. I was dumb enough to take a bite from the stem of my mom's old plant when I was around 5 and it didn't taste good.
They are very easy to root from cuttings. I have more success with them when I stick the cutting directly into potting soil in the pot I'll keep it in than I do treating it like a cutting.
I don't have any advice but the bark on that cutting looks really cool.
Thanks guys, I put it into putting mix so we will see how it goes. Grant, when this gets big enough I can certainly send you cuttings if you are interested. Judy PM me your info so I can make a ite for myself.
