Hi, My Dad is a Milwaukee-transplant who moved with his family to Redondo Beach in '63, then to Lakewood outside of Long Beach a few years later. Grandma still has the house off the Paramount exit of the 91 Freeway. He tells me he'd ride his bike with his buddies over to Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park often as a kid. Though I was born up in Santa Rosa near San Francisco, we lived in Santa Ana (Orange County) for a few years in the mid-80s and had easy access to Angels & Dodgers games plus all the amusement parks. Now I'm an hour south of there but still end up hitting Disneyland, Medieval Times, etc. with my own kiddies :) - Dave C. & Family Southern CA zone 9B

This is me playing "pirate" with my nephew a couple of weeks ago. The floor in this room was the ocean, but our ship was docked in another room, so we were using a couple of mats as rafts to get across--I'd toss one out in front, we'd hop onto it, then I'd pick up the one we just hopped off of and toss it out front, and so on. I don't have any fishing pics, but here's a pic of some fish in the pond I built in my garden :)

I don't think I've posted to this thread before and took a couple of "selfies" on Saturday. They seemed popular with some friends so I thought I'd share them here now that I'm feeling better. I'd rather not go into full details about what happened. My 16 year old son feels very bad about it and I think he's learned a lesson about giving another person a warning about when you really need to drop your end of a 25' long 200 pound iron pipe. I did a lot of yelling at the time while in agony but told him later that I was not mad at him which he didn't seem to want to believe. Maybe I should have shaved first?

There's a chance I may have it play a role in doing that. My orchard will be one acre when I'm done planting it next year and if bird damage is too significant I may cover the entire orchard with netting, using this pipe and others and cable for the support structure. There is a not of natural gas drilling done on and around my farm so I grab any old pipe that the drillers want to get rid of. I used some much larger 6" and 8" pipe for the support structure for my pole barn.

This pic is at my son's graduation from med school at U. of Cincinnati last month. Very proud of the hard work he put in to get there! At graduation for a doctoral student, the grads are 'hooded' - usually one of the faculty places the 'hood' over the graduate's head. Since my wife and I are both physicians, they allowed us to be guest 'hooders' for him at the grad ceremony. And I'm just as proud of my daughter standing next to me in the pic, she will graduate from P.T. school next year. Sorry no fishing pics, I never catch much worth pictures. Maybe I should post a pic of me holding bait or something :)

It's funny, two days before Harvey posted his selfie, I had taken some of me getting a root canal. I was debating whether to post it or not, but then Harvey posted his. There was no way I could compete with a blow to the head.

Sorry for the OT post but need to ask.... Tam, is the name of that Mickey Mouse tree also called something like Bok Mai or something like that? One of these words means white, I believe, so maybe just one of those words. I bought a tree at a nursery recently for a Vietnamese friend. I had asked the nursery owner if he had a white Mickey Mouse tree and he seemed to know what I was talking about. This friend had a white flowering quince as it reminded him of the white-flowered Vietnamese tree. Thanks.

Hi! Harvey,
How are you? Yes, Mickey Mouse Flowering tree is called bong mai in Vietnamese. This tree has many yellow flowers. The white flowers which you mentioned here is called wrightia religiosa (water jasmine). The flowers are beautiful, they have fruity scented and they are very fragrant. In warm climates, this water jasmine blooms year round with many white flowers. The water jasmine is called mai chieu thuy which means its flowers are always facing down onto a river. Thanks for sharing.
Best,
Tam
