Oyster shell grit for mulch?

Has anyone here tried using oyster shell grit around their pot plants as a mulch? I buy it for my chickens to eat, it helps with the production of their egg shells.

I wondered if it would help prevent sciarid flies? It would also provide an alkaline addition to the compost.

I like the idea. Will add calcium too

I will give it a go anyway and see what happens!

When I was a kid my father planted a grove of apple, pear and peaches then I remember bury them around them broken up clam shells sounds like a great idea to me
