Peters Honey 2017

Picked these yesterday since they split after the rains we just had. Not perfectly ripe but they were getting there.

I wasn't expecting much but was hopeful.
The larger ones that had split were actually very good. Not the intense honey flavor I had last year but a nice sweet flavor. The smaller one that didnt split was very sweet and fruity. The first bite I did eat the skin but the skins flavor brought the overall flavor down. Consumed the rest without the skin and I was very happy.

Nice!

Nice looking fig Jeff!

If you don't mind, I have some PH breba photos I will post here rather than start a new topic for same fig?  If not I can delete and re-post. thanks

This PH is only 2yrs old so didn't get that deeper color yours show.
They had a nice sweet honey taste but I thought the skin was a bit thick.  They tasted great without the skin.
Some Europeans I know peel  their figs.  I would peel these breba not main crop.  The main crop is great just the way it is.

Hi Pino, By all means please post away :)..
I would love to see everyone post their Peters honey 2017 crop in here. If we all do the same for all fig then it would be very easy to search fig using the search tool.
I think the search function here is the best and we have many years of history to sift through too.

Your ph  looks good. Even when super ripe the skin is on the thick side. Love the honey flavors though.

now that's confusing pino, your 2016 peters honey had amber pulp. this things got red pulp? 3069003.jpg

@figworld - you have sharp eyes!
I noticed that as well.  Also note the brebas are considerably larger than main crop from my other PH.   It may be a natural difference main crop vs breba, many figs vary.  Others may be able to shed light on this.

My 4 yr old Peter's Honey the source of the main crop photos last year doesn't have any brebas so I will have to wait to fully compare.

my peter's honey, I'm in Australia. this plant came directly from Sicily some 40 years ago.

Any info on how challenging it is to root a cutting? I was give a few a week ago, thanks for any info anyone can provide!!

I had my first and only PH breba last week.  I also had a single Smith and Desert King just to get a taste of things to come.  The PH was the best out of the 3 followed very closely by the Desert King (almost a tie).  The Smith was definitely in last pace.  This PH plant was 2 years old and looked like Pino's 2017 pics.  The taste was as figherder described:  Very sweet, little to no honey.  It was delicious with skin and all!
Andrew

Figs are funny, last year my Peters honey was one of my favorites with an intense honey flavor. This year its average and not much production.. Going to give it a good haircut this winter. Probably set an airlayer or 2 as well this week.
