Petite Negri 2017

Here is my Petite Negri breba.
Nice size, dark blue skin and pulp.  Sweet and figgy taste with a strong lingering after taste.

Also attached a photo of 2 Negronne, Valle Negra and Petite Negri.
They most definitely look similar but there are some differences;
Petite negri looks like on steroids compared to the other 2 in size of figs and production.  Also it has many one lobed leaves.
Negronne and Valle Negra figlets do look slightly different.
All three have that nice dark berry taste.
If you are limited in space you may not need all three.

Very nice!

Congrats.  Thanks for posting.

Thanks for posting this. I've always wondered if Negronne and petite Negra are the same, now I know. I guess VDB is also similar but not exactly the same?

The other one that has me wondering if they are the same is Italian Honey and Latturula?

Unfortunately I can't give you a definitive answer.

There has been discussions on Negronne and VdB since the 1800's (read Hilgardia/Condit) some people think they are the same.  Maybe different strains of same variety.

Similarly with Italian Honey and Lattarula they look similar but there maybe various strains that behave differently.

So if short on space and you have one then you may not need another one unless yours is not healthy and not performing well.

Hi pino,
Nice fig. Thanks for posting !

Thanks jdsfrance!
Its a great fig for cool wet climates since closed eye and doesn't split.
Looks like this group of figs are widely grown around the Alps in France and Italy for obvious reasons.

According to Baud, Petite negri is just another name for Negronne.

Thanks for your feedback Stormy!

Baud is definitely a noted fig tree specialist and trusted by many.  Too bad his website has so few photos of the leaves and figs he sells so it is difficult to compare figs.  Btw I don't see anywhere on his website that he mentions Petite Negri?

IMO I have Negronne, Vdb, Valle Negra and Petite Negri.  The Petite Negri seems to be on steroids in comparison.  The leaves are much larger, the figs a little larger and it has many many single lobed leaves where Negronne and Valle Negra have none.  VdB sometimes gets single lobed leaves.
Petite Negri is also very prolific fig producer.  I have an extra 2 yr old Petite Negri already loaded with figs.

My synopsis;
these figs are in the same family but differ either because grown in different location for years or could have been sport off spring of some original fig.

Regardless they are clearly similar so if you are limited in space one of these will serve you nicely.

I have VDB and Valle Negra, but this still looks interesting to me.
