Pellegrino best tasting fig so far this year, very sweet and rich caramel taste.  A large fig to eat but leaves you wanting another one.  Very productive for 3 year old tree.

Nice pictures and beautifull figs.
Pino you have the way of teasing people with the delicious looking fruit.
Congratulations and continue. (:

Pino,

Thanks for sharing.  Looking forward to tasting the Ciccio Nero next year.

Nice. My main ripening since late Aug 2017 have been :
LSU Improved Celeste
Florea
RdB
Norella

In abundance ripening is Florea

Starting to swell are Cajun Gold, LSU Champagne

Is your San Donato fig the same one that FMD is growing? San Donato Di Ninea?

Enjoy!

Fruit of the ciccio Nero reminds me of pictures of Makedonia...makes one wonder if they are closely related. I have seen niether in the flesh, but leaf pics are simmilar...any thoughts?

Thanks all for the nice feedback

@Rio, I post the photos of my little known varieties so people can learn about them also many can see what figs can be grown in Zone 6 without a greenhouse.  My tiny greenhouse is only used for fig cutting propagation and veggies.  For many years I have been tossing around the idea of a large greenhouse but still don't find it necessary to grow most figs in Niagara.

@Angela, glad you had success rooting your Ciccio!  In a container it is a nice fig sets a nice size crop and if you let the figs ripen fully they taste very sweet and concentrated dark berry taste.  In ground it grows as big as you let it and it produces tons of figs as long as weather cooperates.  Many recent years I have been picking Ciccios in early November.

@Paul you have a lot of LSU figs!  My LSU Gold is loaded this year and ripening early!  Given the rumours that it is cold tolerant I may put it in ground next year since it is too big to haul around and has outgrown the 20 gal container and I have a backup also producing.

@Leon, yes it is San Donato di Nineo.  Tree is only 2yrs old but it nicely gave me a coupe of breba and a couple of main crop.  They were small but tasty.

@Lewi <edit> my 3 year old labelled "Makedonia (r/w?)" is not the dark one from Bass so can't compare them.   In general leaf shapes are varied even on the same plant and  many fig varities have similar leaf shapes but are not the same.  If Makedonia Dark is the same (or in same family) as Ciccio Nero then it should be a great producer and very cold tolerant.

Motto Gratzi for the reply Pino, I think it has that "look" if you know what I mean ( both leaf and fruit)...I hope to receive Bass's version,s that is what I was referring to.  Happy extended harvest.

Pino, I was very succesful with rooting the ciccio nero - 75%.  Not so successful with fico bianco - 0% (but that is ok since I'm finding that I prefer figs with dark flesh).  For the dalmatie I got from you it was 50%.

I prefer dark figs also but you can't beat Fico Bianco for production in our cool climate and if you let it ripen fully it is super sweet and juicy honey fig.
Also a pretty good breba producer every year.

Thanks for sharing your great pics(as usual) Pino, that you have all these main crop in Zone 6 gives us 7&8ers hope lol.

Great pictures Pino.

I had my first Pellegrino a week ago.

Very nice, large, juicy, almost solid interior, and a nice sweetness.

Shoot! Just found the picture, it was 2 weeks ago, and it was Proscuitto, lol.

Well, here it is anyways.

Thanks Mike!
Your prosciutto also looks pretty nice!  I left the Pellegrino on for a few days after they softened and the taste was out of this world.   Best so far this year even better taste than some of the excellent brebas I had.

Thanks Haroon!
Zone 7 & 8 are very good for common type fig growing.  Only the late ripening ones will be an issue for you, if you only have a few late figs keep them in pots and learn to do the fig shuffle.

The figs are getting more delicious as the season progresses.  All we need is hot sunny weather now to ripen the rest.

This year its a slow fig train comin.
With the cool nights it is taking longer for the figs to ripen after they swell and colour.
With a little patience they can still taste great.
The fico bianco's were perfectly ripe and they were excellent, very sweet honey taste.

Spain white 296 - Sep 9, a delicious and consistent producer of brebas and main crop and grows fast.

Sep 10 - Petite Negri and more Fico Bianco(in ground), LSU Gold, Ciccio Nero(in ground)..

On deck;
Melanzana AF figs swelling and colouring.

Pellegrino looks very similar to Melanzana AF (leaves and fruit). Differences so far this year is Melanzana had many brebas (see my breba post) and is now running  10 days behind Pellegrino (no brebas) main crop ripening.  Will soon be able to compare.
Thanks for looking

Amazing job on a wonderful collection.

Thanks Sas.
The weather has been challenging this year but figs have amazing resilience.  (once you get by the rooting stage ..lol)

Wow your fig collection is beautiful! Those ciccio nero figs look the ones my Nonno used to grow in his backyard!

Thanks Ferdinando!
Good figs do get around!

Pino,
Thank you for showing these very nice figs..
Congratulations

Francisco

Thanks Francisco!

We have been having beautiful September weather and many more varieties joining the fig party!  Finally have some figs to feed my freezer for the coming long winter.

These are all tasted great!  Petite Negri by far had the richest berry taste and florea the sweetest honey taste!

Pino, WOAH!!! what a beautiful collection of figs; they all look so juicy. I hope my Petite Negra tree will ripen its figs and produce as good a fig as yours.

Marcel

Would love to get my mouth access to that basket of beautiful figs in Pic 9.... Super figs and beautiful photography, Pino! Congratulations on what appears to be a very fruitful 2017 harvest...

WOW Pino!! What some beautiful Figs and photos, really love the looks of "Ciccio Nero"! Keep up the great work, looks like you know what you doing! : )

@Marcel - thanks!  Should be but don't know for sure if Petite Negri and Negra are the same.  Maybe post yours when it ripens and we can see.

@Tony - thanks for the kind words.  This year the in ground figs have been slow to ripen.  The container figs and brebas have done well.

@Frank, thanks for the compliment!  Means a lot coming from you who has posted so many amazing fig photos of your super fig collection!
