This is a variety that came from Italy and was grown in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania for many years. He grower son in law took a cutting and planted it in Lebanon, pa. While I was doing a talk on figs he brought me a cutting and said how it is cold hardy and heavy producer. They called it mission because it was a dark fig and not the real mission.

I have several cuttings and a tree of one that all I know is it came from Italy in the 1950s and is cold hardy and produces very sweet purple/green medium to large size figs. Its a real gem of a fig, wish I had a real name for it. Its looks similar to the one you are describing and showing.

The fruit is hirsute. That's the first time I noticed that feature. Is that common among figs?
