2 years ago I was given a 'Desert King?" fig tree branch by a neighbor. He said "just stick it in the ground and you will get figs next year."  Well not knowing I did as he said and planted it and ended up getting several branches coming up a ground level. I thought recently, what a great way to get a grafting tree. Plant a multi tipped branch, and when it roots I can either cut each out under ground level for individually rooted trees or plant it and graft several varieties on it. So this is what I am trying to do. The established tree is the one gifted me. I did cut a couple of branches off this and a brown turkey. I scored each branch to get roots going on each branch in case I want to just cut them off later and plant them as tree's.  Has anyone else done this? Can you share your experience?  Thanks!. Following are links for the larger individual pictures.

Hi,
I don't graft on figtrees since they are easy to root, and generally I propagate material from my own trees.
I often stick sticks in the dirt to get new trees.
It works really well especially with fresh branches from a tree stuck in March or April - keep the zone moist.
I often separate root-shoots on my figtrees - it would be the same for a branch. Just do a ground-layering . The container full of loam will sit on the dirt instead of being in the air as it does when air-layering.
If your skills allow, you could easily graft the ground-layer before separating it from the mother plant.
I now put my new propagated trees in pots as they are backup-plants or coins for possible future trades .
Now, I just need more space for my in-ground trees and all the pots ...
