I finally got an Alma!  It's got figs, but they aren't ripe yet.  So, are you serving them plain, or doing something fancy with them?

Oh, and while we are on the subject, since I've never tasted one, are they rich?  Sweet?  Berry?  Nutty?  How would you describe the flavor?

Enjoy the party!!

Suzi

OMG, Now I get it!
The reason you called Alma Twins is because you have 2 of 'em...LOL
...and I thought it's because the tree had low-starting double trunk. Dur!!!

They look amazing, and I am so glad I have several growing in (still) 1Gs

I second the question on taste! My little in-ground has quite a while before she reaches their stature, but she's already starting to put out. :-)

All of that green grass beyond the pool and not a fig in it?  I am ashamed of you.

I love how they just thrive under that cement.

Fantastic pics, FMD, thanks for sharing!  Just gorgeous...

Their progeny from last winter's cuttings are doing well here, one in aquaponics, one in the dirt.  The one in my tunnel aquaponics system has about 12 or so nice figs, and the first one just started turning a couple of days ago.  The one that's in-ground in my other tunnel is purely vegging since the Dwarf Gros Michel banana plants beside it are hogging the sunlight and shading it too much.

Thanks again for the cuttings, and for all the great pictures :)

And the trees are healthy because of the cement?

I suspect that cement contributes significantly to the health of the trees but cannot prove it. An old timer here in the South once told me he broadcasts powdered cement under his fruit trees giving them great growth and huge yields. Makes sense considering cement comes from limestone.

Hershell, anytime you are the general area, the girls would like to meet you.

The invitation is open to any forum fig-nut.

Frank,

The first thing I will do when I arrive is do a cannonball in your pool. Then you will have to refill it.

Rafed, how much do you weigh?

Wills, the shame I feel for having such a large figless area on my property is as deep as the Grand Canyon. If I were a Japanese samurai, I would not be long for this world.

Calvin,

I couldn't play in todays football. It's too watered down.
Plus, my nerves are still messed up on my legs from the spider bite from two years ago. Never been the same.
But love the compliment;)

I put marble chips in the pots for the same reason, what with marble being a form of limestone.
