Hi FMD, If you want people to recognize those figs, you should give the complete name or/and the source . Was it given a name like "unknown from blablabla" ? They don't look like anything I've already seen or own, but the interior looks interesting and yummy ! __________________ ------------------------ Climate from -25°C to + 35°C Only cold hardy figtrees can make it here

I've been eating so many figs lately that my taste buds are a little overwhelmed. I believe these are another variety from the Mt Etna area and as such share a similarity to SAl's EL in taste. They were the first to ripen, so judgment is reserved. I received cuttings from a member who is no longer active 3 years ago. Not sure where he got them from. I'm still HERE!......the cuttings are from a Portuguese family living in Perth Amboy,NJ.....it was an inground tree about 10' tall.....my 7 year old tree suffered partial die back this winter (inground and wrapped) had 170 ripe figs off of it last season. FMD, thx for the Verte, its loaded this year and already had a few brebas. if you want, I can find out what village the family was from...joel

the town in Portugal is Mira near the central coast...that's about it for all the info I can gather.....rcantor asked about the figs?....I sent him the same cuttings!, maybe they didn't survive...joel

I agree that Francisco will be the likely candidate to ID it. There are many Portuguese in NJ From Mira and Murtosa . Could it be Violeta??? Manny

This red skinned fig does not seem to be a local cultivar. Most probably an imported fruit. I am not sure as it happened long time ago but believe having seen something similar in northern Irak (Mossul).. Manel, Not Violeta. Totally diff shape/size and colors. The red fig shows brebas spread on some branches and Violeta does not ripe any brebas. Francisco
