Went to buy figs from somebody, they dont know what variety it is(previous owner passed away). It has been outside for at least 30 years they said. Zone 7(8?) Concord NC. Going back to buy an airlayer soon. The figs I bought could have gone a few days, but i guess thats what I get for buying a gallon at one time. Oh the thing is covered in figs. When I go back ill try to get pictures. Its about 10 to 12 foot tall from memory, very bushy about 12 foot wide next to a shed. Very dark black purple with white dots almost like looking into space, closed to slightly open eye. Most of the ones i got could have gone a few more days on the tree but a few almost ripe ones were hidden in the bunch and I tried to group them together for pictures. Many slightly pink with tinges of red. One that I ate the bottom half was very red. Had I known that was going to be the ripest one I would have taken a picture.

NC is proving to be treasure trove for fig varieties other than Celeste and Brown Turkey. I don't mean that Celeste and BT are second to any fig by any means. It's just that people have had various varieties this far down south. I am learning more about the Okracoke island figs as well. And there is this Kure beach fig.

I would like to see a pix of the tree,as i have one tree that make fruits like that.

If it is not the same tree it sure is the same cultivar,and if it is not the same tree it means the fig is planted more often in South Carolina,and is well adapted to the climate.

VS, I think he is referencing the same tree. It's on a farm--- owners are a young sweet family. Yesterday, I got 2 of their large white fig trees. The trees they sold me are huge and barely fit inside my new truck! Both are airlayer but the owner creates large root balls. I'll post pics in a few weeks when they leaf out more. The owners told me they do not know what varieties these 2 figs are.

Wow we are talking about the same tree. That is something else. I find out about figs less than 5 months ago, scour the internet reading alot, decide to randomly check craigslist and visit the same tree as you.  

Were you able to get any riper ones. One of the kids there said sometimes the inside does get red, i tried to find a real ripe one today and just the area near the eye began turning red. I think this one would turn completely red given enough time. I told them i wanted a gallon before I showed up(the first visit), not realizing a tree probly wont have a gallon worth of ripe figs at one time. They were pretty good though. I took me a while to  post but just wanted to say those black figs are really good!  I was going to pick up figs before leaving for Orcacoke however ended up having to wait.   I picked up a gallon of mostly black figs with a few of the whites mixed in.  The white's are pretty good but the black ones are excellent and so sweet.  I shared a few a work where almost everyone had a tree or two and everyone thought they were great.  Going to finish the last of them with a little goat cheese.

Nope RJ, I'm not a cyclist. But I do own a bike and stayed at a Holiday Inn last night. LOL!

This black fig might not be Black Ischia but it is pretty darn close. I does mostly resemble Negretta. The black figs are very sweet. Again, I'm glad to own 2 of these trees.

Sharon, I'm glad you were able to sample the white figs. I have 2 large trees. One does have a fig on but I may remove it. The owners of both trees don't know how to pick figs. They were picking them while they were still semi-hard but less sweet. Since both the white and the black are hardy to my area. I will plant one of each in the ground.
