pruning new plantings February SoCal

Newbie in Southern California. I just purchased some lovely 2-yr-old and 1-yr-old fig trees from Encanto Farms. Jon was so nice and very helpful.

Just planted these 3 in the front yard. Would like to prune them into small bushes. Would it be OK for me to cut them down to about 7 inches high from the ground? There are some little buds forming.

The trees were planted 3 days ago. Would it shock them to prune them now?

Thanks in advance for all your help and advice!

Welcome to the forum Amanda...

Personally I'd leave them alone to let them build up strength in their new spot this year. You can always airlayer the top towards the end of the season or beginning of next.

Just my 2 cents...

What varieties??? (nosey neighbor) 😉

Thanks so much! I have a Violette de Bordeaux, Celeste, Panache and Green Ischia.
I have some good photos, reduced them down to 45k each, and they won't load. :( I must be doing something wrong. LOL!

Using a flicker type photo sharing site helps...

I have an inground VdB, one of my favorites... The others will also do great for you...

Cool! :) Thanks so much, Simon!

I don't know why these photos are giving me such a problem. They are tiny. LOL!

Getting some pics on here would help others get a better look and give you more ideas...

Welcome!  You could do anything you want but if buds are popping I would wait until next winter and prune when dormant.

Thanks so much, rcantor :) So wish I could get these photos to load so y'all could see them. Really appreciate your good advice. This forum is really helpful. :)
