PSA of the day!

Just returned from the beautiful island of Antigua. Decided to do an island wide tour in an open Jeep just to see the islands natural resources...especially after i saw that the tour took you down a road called Fig Tree drive! I was all excited to see what Antiguans grew in this paradise. I even asked the tour director about the fig trees and they said i would be amazed at the many lovely fig trees that lined the 3 mile stretch of road. I couldn't wait!
Well, we started the tour and it took us to some really exotic places (Google search Devils Bridge Antigua for a sample) but all I could think of was the fig trees and the cuttings i was going to try and clip (tour guy looked at me weird when I asked if could clip a branch or two). We drive through this rainforest surrounded on all sides by lush greenery and suddenly he comes to a stop. He looks at me and says "you have 5 mins" go get your fig tree branches...and then laughed...real heartily i might add. Turns out that in Antigua whaty they call Figs the rest of the world calls Bananas! He was right though.....there were hundreds of them, all 20 feet tall and loaded with figs (bananas to you, me and the rest of the world)!
So, if you go to Antigua keep that in mind...Fig trees are actually banana trees...and no, you cant take clippings!

That's funny, I spent a lot of time in west Africa, Ghana to be exact, and they called papaya, pawpaw. and they called avocados, pears! When the home owner of the house where I lived told me they had a pear tree I was so excited, and when they brought me a bowl of avocados I was slightly disappointed, but the 10 mango trees and cocoa trees more than made up for it! Lol

Entertaining and informative, who knew. Thanks for sharing your story.
