18'' away from the house would be better. What do you have ? 10'' or less or ?
The problem will more be branches rubbing against the wall and staining, marking it .
The leaves need some space to open up completely ... You could leave them like that. But since that looks like a fresh done job... I would consider increasing the distance to the house - because of the rubbing and not because of the roots ...
If you want to be safe with the roots, you could use an 80 liters (20 gallons) plastic trashcan with bottom removed and plant each tree in one.
The container will restrict the area available to the roots. This will have a dwarfing affect too.
