Well, my seeds that I ordered should be here this week sometime. I plan to use peat pods and just see how it goes. I have already read all the forum search results returned from searching "seeds" in the subject, and still have a couple of questions.

1)How soon might I be able to tell which ones might be good trees? Will I have to wait till they are years old to know if I should keep them or not?

2)How long can I expect to store seed without losing viability? Should I put them in the refrigerator? The freezer? I'd like to know if I need to plant them all at once.

Thanks, this will be continued in the future when I have seedlings!

Hi AmandaLovesfigs,
I would plant them all now - it is the right time for outside planting.
Fig sprouts are softy and you might well loose some of them, and not all seeds are viable.
I myself have lost some to over-watering. Search for the topic "pollination myth kill" .
I'll try to update the topic since the small weeds have grown a bit, but still looking like weeds with 5 leaves and not like a tree.
I'm waiting until 1st of june to put them outside for sink or swim.
Mine are more growing as I had expected and that is slowly and not growing fast as some other people have reported.
If they keep on growing like that, I'm expecting to see fruits in 5 years as for apples, cherries ... In Zone7 at least .

That reminds me that I still have 3 remaining (home dried) figs to put the seeds in a pot. I already did with two others last week, and will make the lasts hopefully this week so that I clean up a bit the garden house.
Happy figging !

You'll know what you have when they fruit. Can't tell sex from the leaves.
