Seeking Black Madeira KK cuttings

Hi guys, new member here. Got recommended this site from a few buddies.

I bought a few Madeira cuttings from eBay a while back that turned out to be fake. So hoping my luck will change.

If anyone has some cuttings they would be willing to part with or sell I'm more than interested.

Thanks for your time and happy growing everyone.

wrong time for cuttings, all trees are in growth mode. cuttings are to be had during winter time.

Oh ok.. I wasent sure of the correct times to take cuttings.
I have had good success with cuttings in the past between May-June.

Cuttings seem most available from September to February.

September forums and Ebay to Harvey at Figaholics has been my window.

Just have to be careful, as you have seen, on Ebay.

Cuttings can be taken from trees at any time and they will root. Most people who are reputable and sell cuttings will take off every possible piece they can harvest, so they won't have much to sell now. Your best bet for BM is a live plant. Tyro has great Black Madeira and Figo Preto plants and should have some more to sell this season. I have seen the quality of the plants he sells first hand.

I purchased mine from Justin about a month ago. It is doing really good in my climate. Looking forward to comparing this strain to my Black Madeira and Fico Preto. He actually has one up for auction on ebay right now. If it still interest you take advantage. Good luck!

Thank you very much for the recommendation.
Is tyro from eBay or this forum?

He is pretty active on this forum. You can just PM him. He's in Simi Valley.

I would recommend Tyro.

My little sister in South Texas, my aunt and I have bought 8 BM's over the last 2 years.  As I understand it, the "KK" strain is basically just a plant that originates out of Jon's Encanto Nursery. Somehow it got it's own special name. I've also seen people labeling another BM as "KK" as well. They sell it as being from "Portugal" - not sure about this either.

What I do know is our plants from the seller Tyro in California are incredibly healthy. They arrived in immaculate shape with thick dense wood and unmolested and have been vigorous.

The plants we have from whoever KK is are not vigorous and have all been pruned apparently before they arrived. This of course is limited to our own personal experience and not meant to discourage a purchase from that source. My little sister has 2 BMs the seller KK labels as originating from "Portugal", (which I assume he means is not Jon's strain from California) as well - one in ground and one that is in a 5 gallon bucket - both produce fruit that in our opinion is indistinguishable from all our BM's from different sources. - not particularly vigorous to note but again, BM is a slow grower.

Do your own research and if you can afford it I would buy a plant that has not been previously pruned and has put on 1st leaf growth already. These plants are tricky to grow - definitely not for novices like me.  I have a couple family mentors teaching me the fig ropes or I'm sure I would've killed them all by now.

Should also note, my father prefers the Figo Preto strain as it seems to be the most vigorous with fruit that is indistinguishable from all the other BM's out there.

Cheers, Happy Growing!

I disagree http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/black-madeira-8246965

"Madeira Island Black" is from cuttings directly from Portugal

I have two BM KK cuttings that I won in a contest in January.  The cuttings rooted quickly and have grown very well (I've posted pictures).  There is no hint of disease.  As often happens, the cuttings set fruit, which I've pinched.

So from what I've seen, the strain definitely is vigorous.

My BM tree I bought from KK (Jon's strain) is my fastest growing variety. In fact, four months after buying mine I got to eat 30 or so figs. This will be its 2nd year and I have 48 that I will get this year.

Seems like a real winner! Hopefully I'm able to obtain one.
Happy growing everyone.

My KK is one of my most vigorous trees, way better than the other Madeira I have, what's wrong with yours?

Strange.  My BM KK has been in a two way tie with my Figo Preto from Tyro for most vigorous of all my trees.  Both are great sellers.

Hello everyone, this past fall I purchased several (BM) cuttings from
driveway farmer on eBay.Out of the 2 cuttings I grafted I
got 4 trees that all vary in size. The smallest is about 5"
and the largest about 2'6".(4 months growth)
I'm happy with my purchase from him .He advertised as
Martins version.
