I'll be taking cuttings from my trees this week to add to the cuttings offered at the California Rare Fruit Growers scion exchange this upcoming weekend. They are nothing that one might consider as being particularly rare or unique, but all have delivered excellent quality fruit for me. I'm certainly willing to package any of them up and ship them to forum members here, that might be interested in them as well, for the $5.50 cost of postage. The cuttings that I have to share are: Fuji and Braeburn apples; Shinseiki Asian pear; Royal Blenheim apricot; Triple Crown blackberry; California/Improved Brown Turkey fig, Black Jack fig, a commercial Black Mission fig, and original Spanish Mission fig cuttings from the 1873 Cherokee Hydraulic Mine. Additionally, I've been a long-time customer of the Sustainable Seed Co, here in Northern California. http://sustainableseedco.com/ I have no other affiliation with them... but, as they aren't that widely known outside the area, I thought that I might give a shout-out for them. They are not merely a retail outlet or middle-man, but actually farm the seeds that they sell themselves; and the plants produced are terrific. Smiles, Blue

That's a nice offer. If you have enough packages to spread around, I'd be interested in one.

Hey blue - Can you bring me a couple of those original Spanish Mission fig cuttings from the 1873 Cherokee Hydraulic Mine to the Sacramento exchange? I love cuttings from old figs.

Oh... you're just a little late, Scott... Sorry about that, they're all committed. Well, I guess that it's lucky for you, that I had already put cutting 'care' packages away for both you and Brian yesterday to bring to the exchange with me. I'll see you there... Blue

You're quite welcome, Larry. I was happy to do it. Lou, (Louneo) just wrote me. He found this article about the Cherokee Hydraulic Mine (the source for the 1873 fig) and provided its link. I thought that others might enjoy seeing a bit about the source of this fig. http://insuremekevin.com/table-mountain-cherokee-hydraulic-mining-district/ My parents had thirty acres close to the mine. I haven't grown out the fig cuttings that I collected and sent to you all... having just recently developed an interest in them myself as well. We'll be watching and waiting together. The tree still has figs ripening on it today, the 22nd of Jan. This is the way that the hillside that was washed away by hydraulic mining still looks today: (The Cherokee side, North-east face of Table Mountain) This is the north-west face of the same Table Mountain, between Oroville and Cherokee, mentioned in the article... This is the South-west face, and the barn - as it sits today, that I designed and built from rough-sawn cedar when I was 24... thirty five years ago. LOL!! And finally, this is the south slope, as viewed from Oroville: OK, now you all know where I'm coming from. LOL!!! Blue

Blue,
Looks amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Kudos on the barn, its beautiful!
I've seen the Oroville O maybe 4 months ago on my Norcal camping expedition. I am excited to have a piece of my vacation even if its indirectly.
