Sofeno Preto

A dark Common variety very sweet and full of berry aromas.
Some particularity with this fruit definitely makes it to attract pollinators and this adds to its great ammount of fertile crunchy seeds and shades of deep violet colored pulp. Birds love these figs and wait until it's very ripe to beck them!
On certain seasons may ripen figs popping from older wood branches
together with summerfruit.

Armando:

Rafed:
I WONDER OF THE NEED THE WASP?

Me:
Wow!  I'd love to try some!

Bob,

I have a typo: 'IF' not 'OF' and 'THE' is 'THAT'.

But that was the question, "I wonder if that needs the wasp?", thanks.

Hey, I don't judge.  Blessed are the peacemakers and all that.  Who am I to alter what you wrote?  Your meaning was clear.  I thought you were making it a bit harder to decipher  :)

It's all good, Bob.

I just added the twist to the question since Armando asked his in Spanish(?).

Hope Francisco doesn't get offended. I'll remove it if he does.

I will now ask in Malaysian for my buddies over there....LOL    Rafed what language is that Vulcan....LOL

I cant wait ...

Hi Lampo,
Nice strain ! Are the pics from this year's figs ?
My maincrops are still some weeks away from ripening ...

Thank you fellows for commenting on this special Preto

Armando, Sorry I should be more elaborate describing the fig qualities and attributes.
At the ripening advanced degree as shown on the pictures it melts on the palate adding on to the already complex mix of flavors and sweetness a distinct aroma of light spirits resulting from its starting fermentation.(muy saboroso y dulce)
It may probably compare with Violeta at similar advanced maturation. To achieve this stage much heat and sun-hours are required.

Rafed, It's all right, no offense. Pollen cannot be by-passed. It's all over and there is nothing I can do to avoid it. I know you don't like it, sorry for that.

Bob, Thank you ... I understand what you feel but it's too cool over there.

Eli, will dispatch a PM tonight

jds, Yes these are Summer 2014 crop..not many figs left now.

Francisco

Dear Francisco,

There are fig pictures, then there is fig porno. That is all.

p.s. keep up the good work:)

Great photos. They belong in a magazine.

Thank you Donna and Dale for your kind comments

I'm not sure what I'm doing here. I'm trying to figure out what fig this is and where you are growing it? I think it's something I may be looking for also

Laveta, you are replying to a 3 year old thread. The name of the fig is in the title, Sofeno Preto

This is a Common fig  (name- Sofeno Preto-) and grows in Southern Portugal.
For a while it was available at a nursery in Canada.  (Adriano's).
Best on dry and  warm areas and needing much sun-hours. The fruit on  the pictures may have been involuntarily pollinated

Thanks so much. I was lost here. I had someone in Ontario wanting to sell me this one, but I wasn't really sure what it was. I'm in Virginia USA and worried that customs would take it or I might not have enough heat and too much humidity anyway.

I have wanted this variety since last year but availability was limited to Canada and I didn't want to chance my collection to the vagaries of a USDA home visit... if an available US source exists, I am not aware of it...

There is a source in Sebastopol, Tony.

@figgary ... thank you for bringing this to my attention; I missed that; Good things are growing in Sebastopol!
