Stopping Ants

I had hundreds of tiny little ants in my fig bushes. I didn't want to spray anything because they are just starting to get ripe. I didn't want to put anything on the ground to wash down and come up thru the roots. I saw the write ups on here and watched some youtubes about using sugar and borax. Let me tell you it works. The first day it was covered with ants but 3 days later nothing. There were a lot of dead ants it so I thought that may be stopping the others from coming. I made a fresh batch and nothing. I put mine in a pepsi bottle and cut a hole in the side and bent the flap out like a roof over the porch to keep rain out. This way your pets can't get in it either. Also I squirted some Aunt Jemima in it. I like it so I figured they would to.

Just getting ready to do this. It's good to hear from someone that it works. Thanks! What ratio did you use? Did you just mix them together dry?

I used 3 to 1 sugar/borax. Mixed with a little warm water. It was a very thick syrup.

Thanks! Die ants die!

I've seen where some guys wrap a piece of tin foil around the base of the tree and then coat it with petroleum jelly to stop the ants from getting up the tree.

I've heard that works well, but from what I understand, borax kills the whole colony. The take it back to the nest, and it wipes them out.

That would be a better solution then.  I might have to try this.
