"Sunbird" EBT - First Taste

Despite recent bad and frustrating problems with critters destroying figs on our trees, we did manage to get several from trees that had been moved right up next to the house. I picked them last night. After I our other losses to critters I just couldn't wait.

These pics are from the "Sunbird" Unknown discovered by Palazzophoto, which is considered some variety of EBT. This is my first time tasting this fig and all I can say is WOW. I think I actually said OMG after the first bite. It is sweet, with a rich complex flavor and a hint of some other fruit flavor (maybe peach). I saved a few for today, but it was hard not to eat every last one last night. Definitely in my top three so far this year!

This fig puts out a breba crop most years, and according to Palazzophoto will continue to produce figs all summer long.

Is that from one tree? So productive!

Yes, one tree. The member with the most experience with this variety says that this variety is one of his most productive trees here. The mother tree, here in Houston, is also completely covered. They were unripe when I stopped there last, but there were hundreds on the 10 ft tree.

wow.... Productive sounds wonderful.... the only thing productive up here so far is the spring crop of new chipmunks.... started digging in my fig pots today.... guess its time to start feeding the local foxes with chipmunk carcasses....
