I got this fig through the mail about 2 weeks ago. I think it may have been growing in a greenhouse or indoors. This is how the leaves are. Is it snuburn perhaps or something more sinister?

To me, it appears to be sunburn.

thx Figgy frank. I wonder if it's too late to move it into the shade or should I just let go in the sun

I would recommend to move it under shade until it rebounds. Having it under the sun could stress it even more. Once you see new leaves slowly start acclamating to sunlight.

I always recommend putting any fig indoor or in total shade for aleast 7 days. After being put in a box and rapid temp changes They need a consistent cool temp then a sun hardening of gradual sun exposer. Richie from louisiana

It will probably drop all of the leaves, at this point. Leave it in the sun, so the new leaves will be acclimated from day one. Make sure it is well watered.

No sun burn for me, but leaf aging.
Those leaves look really old. IMO, that tree will now go through a dormant stage (she is already in, in fact ) and will grow after that.
So you can keep her directly in a sunny spot -unless you live in a desert of course :) . In that case go for a place that is a little shaded like for a normal fig tree.
I know you didn't ask, but it looks like time for potting her up has come.
