Tagging/Identifying figs

I just finished posting a reply to a thread and I was probably harsh with my criticism of a member not tagging/identifying trees.  There is way too much of this going on and it totally contributes to the vast number of "unknown/mis-named" figs.  It is unacceptable to do this and then sell or trade your trees or cuttings.  If you start the thread with "Can't remember what this was" and then say that you know everything that you have is laughable.  I personally will not buy or trade for anything from a (the) member who intentionally fails to tag/mark cuttings or trees.  If you cannot prove the lineage, you have an unknown.

This is a problem in our hobby and must be curtailed/stopped whenever possible.

Rant for the day!

I agree.... I was commenting on facebook yesterday for exactly that problem. People should not be selling a fig using a local name / synonym when there are at least 2 or 3 separate varieties that are known by the same local name. Which are they selling; variety 1 or 2 or 3? What then happens when someone else sells one of the other varieties known locally by the same name? Now there are 2 distinct fig varieties being sold under the same name which isn't even the variety name. It leads to confusion and ultimately fraud; I say fraud because once someone has pointed out the issue/concern/problem to a seller and they continue to sell that fig disregarding the facts and without attempting to properly identify which variety the local name refers to, they are committing fraud...

I have had the same feild for three years. Never adding to it. Sorry if i know what i have. There are pictures of my field with wooden signs showing exactly what I have. I was simply making a joke about my OCD and this guy posting here flew of the handle. Do i need to post pic of my pots with paint pen names on them to calm you down. And my field is mainly lsu varieties. Wow wee i hit a nerve. Calm down buffy.

Richie, you been "bad" again?

Richie... Just to clarify, I haven't a clue about any issues you have had with fig id's, I was talking about overseas FB posters who post  and offer for sale figs under local names leading to confusion and mis-identification when multiple different figs share common local names.......

This wasn't directed at you at all. It was answering someone else. No worries.
