Riverford the grower and supplier of organic food have listed organic figs on their website. The variety listed is Cuello de Dama Negra grown by Jose Mari Agusti near Barcelona. They are priced at £3.95 for 250g.
There is a minimum spend if you buy a la carte as I do, which will be be £15 for deliveries after 4th September. However they have good stuff and it's easy to make up the £15. Still enough of the plug for Riverford, back to the figs.
I have an order in for delivery Friday and will post pictures and description then.
Suffice it to say that last years were among the best figs I have ever tasted.
They inspired me to try and get a tree of my own. No luck in that but I did find a col de dame blanc which hopefully will taste very similar.
Last year the figs were available for about four weeks.
