I posted a question few days about a question I had regarding the compact growth of my new VdB and Celestial. I received a lot of good info from the replies (as usual)

However, I was at my local nursery today and they had a VdB for sale from the same grower (Dave Wilson) and appeared to be about the same age as mine.  However, the growth looked quite different.  In fact the one at the nursery had already put on fruit while mine isn't even showing a figlet yet.

Just interesting to me to see even within the same variety there is some variability in the way these things grow. It also make me wonder how much my care if responsible for the difference in growth.  I guess this is a variation on the old nature vs nurture question...

Does anyone have an additional thoughts on the cause for the difference? I know there will most likely be several opinions, but that is what makes this forum great!

Could be as that look like old wood.   Strange as the 5 or 6 trees I have seen from Dave Wilson were just a trunk with 1 or no side branches when dormant.

Someone actually paid attention to the structure on the one with the breba hanging.
Easily done, but more difficult to ship.

I had a VDB purchased a couple of years ago from Edible Landscaping which they probably got from the large growers. The label read VDB but the leaves and figs were nothing like a VDB.
In fact I purchased a VDB from a member and was able to compare the two side by side and they had nothing in common except the color of figs.
This is how you end up with different strains of VDB.
I recently bought a "Native de Argentina" labeled tree from another nursery where most of their trees come from Dave Wilson and I know that this name is most probably "Hative de Argenteuil", Now I'm hoping that it is HDA not something else. Luckily I have other figs to compare it to .
People use Synonyms casually and sometimes end up with multiple names for the same fig not only in different countries but in the same country. This is a common practice among nurseries.
Here's an example that one nursery in France uses to describe the Violette Dauphine fig. Synonyms. Figue fleur, Bakor, Grise de Tarascon, Adam, Rouge d'Argenteuil ou Violette d'Argenteuil. Since that type of description is not scientific nor accurate, the chances of ending up with a mislabeled fig is very high.
