I recently visited the website and made a few selections. I followed the directions closely and received an email stating that my request was received. I never saw anything regarding shipping costs or a time frame for delivery. Did I miss something or is there another step later in the process? Welcome to the forum. . I had a similar problem. I got the same email and that was it i ordered in november. Its too late to order. You have,to wait till end of year. The email states that your request was received but unfortunately too late for this year's shipment. I received mine last year on March 14th. But your order should be considered for next year's shipment. By the way, welcome to the forum.

bamafig, Welcome to the forum. They never give you shipping costs! It's always a surprise. Just make sure your credit card has funds that will cover $12 - $30 dollars. That is approximate. It depends on the size of your order. They go to a lot of trouble and label and wrap everything well. Delivery is usually late March and April of the year after you place your order. Regarding their labels. They are not permenant. The sun and weather will fade them. Do not make the mistake of putting rooted trees outside with the UCD label and expect to know what you have after a few months...... Use permanent labels. Welcome bamafig. I too am getting anxious about the UCDavis process. Do we know when that's happening-ish? Also, do we know if they are going to continue distribution in the future? If I recall, awhile back there were some rumors that they may start limiting their distribution, but to what extent I do not know. __________________ In GA, Zone 7b/8a Wish list: more space to put in figs.

Are they still doing this rather freely? The GRIN used to distribute pretty freely with chili peppers and tobacco seeds but they have cut way back in those departments due to budget cuts. If they do still distribute rather freely, how many different types do you recommend ordering to make it worth the while of the shipping costs they charge? I was looking at 4 of them. __________________ I'll eat anything but a hotdog. I was in Davis a few months ago and learned that fig cuttings requests are up 30% from a year ago. Due to a reduced budget, distributions have ended for regular backyard orchardists. Here's a tip: If you're travelling to the area, contact them several weeks ahead of time to gain access to the grounds and meet with someone willing to put aside valuable time to escort you around. The operation is Federal and security is very tight. Also, due to limited resources, they are very busy. Arrange to go when figs are ripe and you likely will be allowed to taste some exotic cultivars you would never get a chance to sample. I am passing on what I was told. OH! I didn't get to tour the orchard, but at least I was mailed free cultivars "in the good 'ole days." __________________ -Charles Cool Pacific NW Zone 8b

The guy in charge of the orchard has to check the whole place over once every week or two - and he's happy to bring someone along and tell them all about the place. When I went, plums were ripe so we sampled some delectable varieties. __________________ Blackberry & Fig Farmer in East Bay San Francisco - Sunol.
