Vigor=Growth and Productivity?

Hello Everyone,
I'm at that point where I'm seeing results from rooting my cuttings. I'm new enough that I don't have enough experience under my belt to answer these questions. Do cuttings that root quickly and put on growth easily and quickly turn out to be very healthy and productive plants/trees? It seems that there are some cuttings that just want to live. Are some cuttings sprinters? Is it down to varietiy? Is it down to technique with cuttings? I ask all of this to know and to know what I should give away. I'm assuming I hold onto the cutting that was first to root and puts on the best growth?

Any thoughts welcome.

From cutting to tree, you have a long trip. Cutting Vigor is a great sign, but has nothing to do with productivity. You will need about five years to really know which one is a real winner.
In some cases less. Sometimes things are touch and go and some varieties will not produce before three or four years. It's all about patience and there are many variables at play.
If you have some FMV symptoms on your cuttings then growth might be slow and in some cases, I would try to find an FMV free strain if possible.
If a cutting is not good enough for me to keep then I would not give it away, I prefer to destroy it:)

I am very interested in this topic as well. Last spring my son gave me a cutting (unnamed verity) and I ended up with 2 plants. Both produced a couple of figs that never ripened fully. One is 3' and the other is 2.5'. The fruit was small about the size of a silver dollar. I would think this is very vigorous but do not have a lot of experience with fig trees.
