Violet Sollies is the last of the cuttings I started this year. (Thank you, kind donor!). Within the last hour I noticed that two of the cuttings have nice white, plump roots - and the others are still looking very healthy. Yippee!

Hi Gina,

I'm so glad you joined the forum--Happy Anniversary!

What is this fig like and how did you hear about it?  Interesting name.

Thanks you. Me too. :)

Violette Sollies/Soleis is a name that kept popping up when I was reading lots of old threads here. I think one of it's problems is its name, which people spell various ways. Jon uses 'soleis'.  http://figs4fun.com/Thumbnail_Violette_Soleis.html

It seems to be in that 'fuzzy family' of dark figs with messy synonyms. The Neros and Brogiottos and Bourjasottes.

From what I have read however (If I am recalling correctly), Violette Soleis is a fig grown commercially in France. It is dark and has very good taste. The photos of it I have seen are just beautiful.

Hello
This is a rather robust variety. With the correct treatment, climate and ideal surroundings later on when fruiting,  it may look like the pictures attached .
Good luck

One of the synonyms, Barnisotte, is not a synonym, as it's its own cultivar in the US.  So avoid using variations of Barnisotte to associate with VS.

Probable desired fig: Smith, St Jean, JH Adriatic, CddB, Gulbun, Pastilliere, Sucrette

Rooting:  Smith, CDDB--this pretty much means I have my fun tries (tho' important since they are truly desirable), and only interested for this year: Gulbun, BM, 187-25, or something wildly exotic or precious that nobody has any good reason to send me.

Martin it as good growth and nice shape for the first year. I would love to have one like that at

the end of this years. Did you put the fig in that pot right away or did you up pot a few times?

How is the taste of Violet Sollies compared to other popular fig variety?
