I just bought this fig on sale but was wondering why the branches pointing downwards ? Has anybody seen this before ?

Looks like it may have died back and resprouted from the base and/or it may have been under other plants and vying for sunlight. Make it into a 3D espalier.

Local nursery, 5 bucks so not really a big loss. I just took all the leafs off since they were all yellow . Just never seen a fig like that .im going to look more into 3d espalier.

I think this plant was made to look like that if it's a good fig it's goign to be easy to be air layer. Nice find.

Maybe to give the appearance of it crawling on the ground when planted in the ground. And I've done zero fig air layers

Nice one. Plant it slanted in a bigger pot after you cut branches on one side.
This way the branches will point upward after you prune them a bit.

Hi Ilikefigs,
This is a common sight for me. Lots of small pot grown fig trees will look like that - perhaps as they are kept root-bound for too long.
You don't need to worry. Just let it grow in ground or in a bigger pot and it will grow upright .
