I am curious how one would compare fig leaves. I know there are variants in texture and lobes. What other characteristics would you look for in comparing leaves?

Recently, my brother-in-law purchased a new home. When i was there visiting for the first time, I saw two small fig trees growing. He's not much of a plant guy and never even noticed they were figs! When I asked him if I could come back for cuttings when the trees got bigger he just said "take them. They're yours." He didnt ask me twice! I was there the next day with shovel in hand!

I'm sharing the photos of leaves of one of the trees here. I forgot to photograph the other one so I will have to upload pics when the leaves cone back.

What makes your fig's leaves interesting?

Hope they fruit for you. The leaves look like leaves of some wild figs, I've seen before. If you get fruit invite him and see what he says. He'll probably ask you for some cuttings. lol.

Interesting. Yeah, i dont know if its a wild fig. The owner had two different types growing and he also had a very old olive tree as well as bannanas, oranges and a few other fruiting trees. The trees are about two feet tall. I'll let you know what happens :-)

I much more care for the fruits than the leaves.
I try to have smaller varieties because of space. So I'd rather go with trees of smaller size, smaller inter-nodal spaces and smaller sized leaves. I don't like fig trees with huge leaves.
Of course a jolly tiger or a Panaché is another story :) .

I always marveled at the skills of some people when it comes to leaves. I find these leaves interesting, the space between lobes on the first one is cool! The 2nd leaf also looks very different. Keep us updated. I can't help at all, but enjoyed the photos.

I was wondering if you by chance recall if you saw figs on the wild fig? By the way, this tree seems like a fast grower. I was surprised that the day after i transported it home having cut all its leaves, it immediately had another leaf opening up! The same with the second tree. No wilting. Nothing!

Ah, interesting! I guess I never considered that the fruit size, in general, would correlate with the inter-nodal spaces & size of leaves! I find this detail facinating! Thank you!

Yes, interesting to me too. It immediately caught my eye when I walked into thecyard! The fringed edges were interesting but i have seen that before except sevveral of these leaves look almost roynd and fringed with very little in way of space between lobes.
