I was wondering what this white stuff was, wanted to make sure it was beneficial to the plants. I do add some mycorrhizae into the slightly damp coco coir. I have this on most of my cuttings, but this one has the most. I am hoping its signs of root development soon, and not rotting etc.

 All my figs have been exposed to  FMV,some have it, some don't. It doesn't seem to bother them so it doesn't bother me.

Much of that is not root initials. do a search on lenticels or white fluff you will see a lot of discussion regarding it.

There is a technical term for this, but may brain is a little foggy. When you see this it does mean roots are on their way. I would leave it where you have it until you see real roots, then try planting it with just that green shoot above the soil.

Listen to Strudeldog on this one. Man's been around the rodeo once or twice. Lots of good older threads about this on the forum to read up on which can be found with those terms.

You'll be lucky if 1-2% actually reveal or precede root strike.

Jason, I always see that stuff prior to roots. Not saying that each little white bump will be a root, just saying that it shows up before roots

Those are lenticels, they do not become roots.  It means the cutting needs more air when there are lots of them sticking out.

yup, primordium. not much of an indicator of roots but keep your fingers crossed, you're on the right track. Lenticels are something different.

not sure what they are called, but i see lot of those on the thicker cuttings in baggie. once rooted and left out in more dryier environment, they will turn brown and drop off. it won't harm the cuttings.. unless you keep it too long in the baggie or humid area and mold and rot sets in.

Here you should see roots if not already where several black lines are marked as you can see the points coming out that "may" be a few root caps.
Look carefull at the top piece shown and to the far left for the black lines i marked in this inverted picture shown you can see 3-4 points emerging.
