Well my fig plants never made it to the cold cellar.  Since I only 15 fig plants (and not in really big pots) they have been near my bay window in the kitchen (facing east).  Yes unfortunately they came out of dormancy and are growing but that's not my problem.

As I am looking at the plants one of them had what looked like little brown bumps.  When I finally decided to have a closer look and touched one it was some kind of bug.  Yeck! Since there were about 8 or so of these close together I removed them using some kleenex.  I checked the rest of the plant and nothing.  I checked the other plants and nothing.  I didn't notice them earlier because they were all facing the window. I don't know how long they had been there.

After some research I found out that these bugs were scale and I could potentially have a more serious problem.  How concerned should I be?

Scale is easily taken care of with sprays available.
I used Pyola last year to help control.

Destroys adult insects, larvae and eggs. Simply mix concentrate with water and thoroughly spray plants. May be used on edible crops up to the day of the harvest.

Thank you.  I will investigate whether we can use pyola here in ontario ( a lot of pesticides and herbicides are banned) in case I need to use it.

As it is made from canola oil and pyrethrins, I would think it should be no problem for you, but
I have no idea of your laws.
