What to take from a plant.....right now!

Hi Everyone

A friend is moving and they have a large fig plant in ground. They said i can take a few cuttings before they leave.

I was just wondering, whats best, should i take some woody cuttings, green cuttings, try to get some root out of the ground?

If i take cuttings, should i try to root them now? or clean them off and put them in the fridge?

thanks!

With growing ficus, you'll realize the best results by taking lignified wood (about the diameter of your little finger works well) and get it into the ground immediately.   Use some means to prevent the branch from drying out.  (Use a plastic bag, parafilm, etc...  )  and keep it out of sunlight.  Placed under another shade tree works well.

Best option would be to get a sucker that you can pull or cut out if the soil with some roots attached. You might even be able to cut a part of the plant itself off with roots using a shovel or spade. I would plant the sucker or branch with roots in a pot, keep it watered, for and in the shade until it recovers. You may also want to trim the sucker or branch to
put less stress on the roots. Once the plant is growing healthy you can plant itin the ground.

Make sure the cuttings you get have multiple nodes.

I did this for my first attempt ever and it worked well. Plant is now ready to go in a much larger pot and even tried to produce figs its first year (I pinched them off to favor growth)
